All Night Where?!: Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation Review
Since December I have been trying out Urban Decay’s All Nighter Liquid Foundation on and off. I picked it up from Sephora for 40 USD in the shade 9.75 in hopes that I’d finally found the foundation of my dreams. While I rarely actually wear my makeup all night, the long-lasting matte finish caught my eye. The oil-free foundation claims to be full coverage with a matte finish. It is also supposed to be “perfect for all-night affairs” as well as everyday wear (Sephora). However, after using this foundation for about 6 months, I definitely want to hash out some pros and cons about the product:
Note: I have combination/oily skin, so my experience may differ from those with dry to normal skin types.
1. Color Selection
There are a variety of shades, even for darker skin tones (*gasp*). There are several undertone choices as well (e.g. soft warm, golden) to help pinpoint the right shade for you.
2. Full Coverage
The full coverage claim is definitely accurate. Because this foundation has a relatively high pigment concentration, a little goes a long way, so this is not a foundation you want to pile multiple layers on.
3. Oil Free
As someone with sensitive skin, I appreciated that this foundation is oil free and would not break me out (or so I thought). For those concerned about oil content, this foundation meets the oil free criteria.
4. Airless Pump for Every Last Drop
I absolutely love the bottle, especially the airless pump that lets you get all the product out without wasting any (especially since its 40 USD).
1. All Night Where?!
This did not last more than a few hours on my skin before the texture began to appear grainy and as if it were crumbling (especially around the jawline). I tried different primers to see if I could combat the problem with no luck.
2. Some Shades Oxidize
I originally got the shade 9.0. However, after an intense case of oxidation (I looked like a tomato), I returned the next day for my original match shade 9.75. My current shade does not oxidize on me, but it is possible that some shades do, so beware.
3. Not So Matte
For those with oily skin types, this is one of the better foundations for lasting matte finish, but once again, definitely not for “all night” wear.
4. Break Outs
Despite being oil free, the foundation did cause me to break out on some occasions (probably not a hypoallergenic formula).
Despite its cons, I would say this foundation is good for a night out… but not all night. It has a nice matte finish that could last you a good couple hours, especially for those who have dry to normal skin types. I will continue to use the foundation here and there until it's gone (maybe even with Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray), but this foundation definitely won’t be my go-to.
Any tips on using this foundation? Let us know in the comments!.
